Fiddle

Lessons

Ever thought about picking up the fiddle? When I first started, I never imagined how much joy it would bring me, and now, one of my greatest joys is sharing it with others.

Whether you’re brand new or just wanting to feel more confident, I offer one-on-one lessons that move at your pace and focus on the music that inspires you.

With my background in education and years of fiddle playing, my goal is to make learning approachable and fun for all ages. Lessons are built around music that motivates you and keeps you reaching for your fiddle every day.

What You’ll Learn

Every student brings their own goals to the instrument, and I love shaping lessons to fit each person. Some people want to pick up a favorite tune by ear, others are curious about reading music, a few want to jump into jamming confidently, and many want to play with more ease and skill. Wherever you are, we’ll focus on building skills that make the fiddle fun and rewarding.

Together, we might explore:

  • Foundations & Setup
Develop a comfortable and sustainable approach to holding the fiddle and bow, tuning your instrument, and establishing a healthy posture.

  • Tone & Technique
Strengthen tone production and musical flow through bowing patterns, left-hand accuracy, and technical exercises.

  • Repertoire & Style
Build a versatile repertoire spanning bluegrass, folk, old-time, and Americana traditions. Lessons emphasize learning by ear, with the option to incorporate music reading, and introduce improvisation.

  • Collaborative Skills
Gain experience in timing, listening, and blending with others, preparing you to participate in jams, groups, or even performance settings.

  • Musical Expression
Explore music that resonates personally with you, while developing stylistic awareness and cultivating your own creative voice on the instrument.

Lessons are flexible and designed to fit your pace.

  • $30 for 30 minutes

  • $50 for 60 minutes

All lessons are taught in-person at my home in Ellensburg, WA. Beginners, returning players, and curious music-lovers of all ages are welcome.

If you’d prefer lessons in your own home, I’m happy to travel at a rate of $0.70 per mile, calculated round trip from my home.

About Me

I’ve been playing fiddle for more than 20 years, performing with folk, bluegrass, and Americana bands around the Northwest. While I was classically trained through my teens, I found my true voice in the raw edges of Americana ballads, bluegrass, Willie n’ Waylon, and the kind of tunes that feel like home and heartache all at once. Along the way, I’ve studied with incredible musicians like Allie Kral (Yonder Mountain String Band) and Annie Staninec, who have taught me the value of both solid technique and joyful expression. I also hold a degree in Education, which gives me a strong foundation in teaching and supporting students at all stages of learning.

My approach to teaching is relaxed and approachable. I focus on helping students connect with the music that inspires and excites them, because that’s what keeps you playing.
